SAGE Publishing Announces Scholarship in Partnership with Joint Council of Librarians of Color

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 12, 2023) – SAGE Publishing and the Joint Council of Librarians of Color (JCLC Inc.) are pleased to announce a new scholarship program that will award $2,000 each to five library school students – one from each of the five National Associations of Librarians of Color (NALCo): AILA, APALA, BCALA, CALA, and REFORMA.

“SAGE sees librarians as central to the teaching, learning, and research happening on campus, so it is critical that library school students from underrepresented backgrounds are given the support they need to become the campus and LIS professional leaders of tomorrow,” said Camille Gamboa. “At SAGE, we believe that a healthy future for higher ed is only possible when voices of all backgrounds can thrive, and as an independent company, we have the unique freedom to forge new partnerships that help our communities as we move toward that long-term goal. We are very proud to be announcing this new partnership with the JCLC Inc. and the five NALCo associations today.”

Recipients will be selected by panels created by each of the NALCo member associations based on eligibility criteria. The call for applications will be made in the spring, and the five awardees will be publicly announced later this year.

JCLC Inc. Board President Dr. Kenneth Yamashita, said, “I am thrilled about this partnership with SAGE Publishing. It will allow us to impact the lives of underrepresented LIS students across the country, while simultaneously working towards a better, more diverse learning environment for all students and a more diverse profession in the future.”

SAGE is a proud sponsor of the 4th National Joint Conference of Librarians of Color. Read more about SAGE’s efforts in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion
